Meet the Team: Alex Layman

Meet Alex Layman, our customer service and order processing guru. Alex is an amazing asset to our team and an extremely talented guy (read below about his dance moves). We asked Alex to answer a few questions about himself so we could all get to know him a little bit better.

SBC: Where did you go to college and what was your major?

I went to UT-Austin and majored in English.

SBC: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working everyday with the great SBC team and hearing customers' stories about how our products have had such a positive affect on their lives.

SBC: What is your favorite Seaweed Bath Co. product and why?

I really enjoy the Eucalyptus and Peppermint Body Wash. It makes the entire bathroom smell amazing.

SBC: Name three things you can’t live without and tell us why

The first two answers are my girlfriend and our little calico cat. Third is that I constantly need to be near bodies of water--lakes, rivers, ocean, anything. Water makes me feel calm and balanced. There's a connection to water that I think all people inherently have, and it's another reason I love being part of a team that can help facilitate that connection via our products on an everyday basis.

SBC: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Advice is a tricky, because advice shifts and evolves as life shifts and evolves. What is great advice today may not be applicable next week, so I try to accept wise words as they come and adapt accordingly. I don't remember any life-changing advice I've received, but I do remember quotes, and I think they function in a similar fashion. One of my favorites comes from a translated poem by Antonio Machado:

"Walker, your footsteps/are the road, and nothing more./Walker, there is no road,/the road is made by walking./Walking you make the road,/and turning to look behind/you see the path you never again will step upon./Walker, there is no road,/only foam trails on the sea."

SBC: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would go to Chile and visit Patagonia. Exploring the remote back country of Patagonia has been on my list for quite some time, and I think it would be the most amazing experience to be that far from civilization. (If Patagonia is answer 1A, New Zealand is a very close 1B.)

SBC: What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?

Anytime I'm on the West Coast, you can probably find me surfing. However, in Central Texas surf is hard to come by, so probably my favor thing is to grab a canoe or kayak with some friends and spend the day cruising down a river.

SBC: Anything else we should know about you?

One recent Halloween I dressed as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. My friends and I were in a very crowded venue in downtown Austin when, lo and behold, another Stay Puft Marshmallow Man walked entered on the far side of the room. From beneath our respective masks, we locked eyes. The tension was palpable; the whole bar could feel it. Naturally, the room morphed into a circle of bodies with open space between them, where the most epic Stay Puft dance-off ensued. It was tough competition, but not one to be outdone, I busted out some new moves I'd been working on. Needless to say, I won, to raucous applause. It was the greatest dance-off of my life. What should you know about me? I love to dance, and welcome all Stay Pufts who think they're up to the challenge.

Thanks, Alex! We look forward to the next/first Seaweed Bath Co. dance-off, coming soon!
