Happy 2018: Health, Happiness, and Hydrotheraphy

January brings more than just a New Year with it. January brings new goals, new resolutions, new personal wellness methods and of course, cold weather. Instead of letting the winter blues get to us, we’re focusing on feelings of hygge and wellness this month. Our go-to wellbeing ritual combats dry winter skin and generates feelings of relaxation and coziness: a bath.

Okay, not just any bath, the perfect bath. Here are our four essential ingredients to achieve our perfect bath.

  • Calming Vibes
  • Our first bath essential is setting the mood with calming vibes. We dim the lights and use clean-burning candles to create a tranquil ambiance.  When buying candles we look for candles that use 100% pure essential oils, like our own products, and are free of paraffin, dyes, or synthetic fragrances. Incorporating calming sounds can also be important in engaging the senses. We love streaming peaceful spa-like music with meditative undertones. From time to time, using a guided meditation app can be a nice uplifting change to focus on gratitude or being present.

  • Bath temperature
  • Between the not-so-healthy eating habits encouraged by the holidays and other stressors holidays can bring, a warm bath might be just what the doctor ordered! According to Daily Mail, the temperature of your bath can offer different benefits, “Warm baths - 90-95F or 32-35C - open the pores and encourage sweating, which helps to release toxins,” writes Daily Mail contributor Pat Hagan. She also goes on to explain that warm baths may even help reduce blood sugar levels, and reduce pain in joints.

  • The Soak
  • Add our Hydrating Seaweed Bath to hot water. We like using the calming lavender scent at night to help us unwind, and the eucalyptus peppermint in the morning to awaken our senses. The Hydrating Seaweed Bath contains a dynamic duo of both Argan and Kukui oil, in addition to bladderwrack seaweed to improve the look and feel of dry winter skin. Argan oil, rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, naturally comforts dry, troubled skin. Hawaiian Kukui oil, rich in oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids, is a natural, nourishing moisturizer.

If your main goal is detox, reach for our Whole Seaweed Detox Bath. This simple, one ingredient soak packs a powerful punch. Whole, dried bladderwrack seaweed comes in this pouch with a small mesh bag. Simply put the bladderwrack seaweed in the mesh bag and steep it in your bath. The bladderwrack we sustainably harvest off the coast of Maine contains over 65 minerals and naturally helps to purify and restore skin.

  • The Lather
  • Customize your lather with one of our Hydrating Body Washes or Purifying Detox Body Washes. The hydrating body wash creates moisturizing lather that leaves skin feeling hydrated, refreshed and renewed and combines nutrient-rich bladderwrack seaweed with coconut oil, aloe, and natural hydrating ingredients. Our Purifying Detox Body Washes combine nutrient-rich bladderwrack seaweed, green coffee extract and French clay to detoxify and cleanse for softer, smoother-looking skin. Our little trick to make the bath a little extra sudsy: give the body wash a squeeze while the bath is still running and it doubles as a bubble bath.

  • The Extras
  • To engage all the senses, sometimes we like to sip on a hot green tea or a golden Turmeric latte for its anti-inflammatory properties while we soak. Or if you still have some of that bubbly left over from NYE, that’s okay to sip on too (we won’t tell anyone).

Here’s to health, happiness, and hydrotherapy in 2018! Happy New Year!
