Each year, World Oceans Day brings people together in volunteer and education initiatives to celebrate, protect, and conserve our oceans. Originally, the idea for a designated World Oceans Day was proposed by Canada in 1992 at the Earth Summit. The Ocean Project and The Ocean Network and a team of dedicated volunteers came together to spearhead initiatives, but it wasn’t until 2008 that the United Nations officially recognized World Oceans Day as June 8th.
World Oceans Day conducts outreach to public and private sectors, brokering connections throughout the year to increase awareness and promote conservation.
As a company that draws inspiration from the ocean, it is important to The Seaweed Bath Co. to help protect what is dear to us. We’re offering 20% off all hydrating body care from Tuesday, June 5th through Sunday, June 10th. The Seaweed Bath Co. will match that 20% discount and donate it to World Oceans Day.
What else can you do to help?
-
Donate your time and find a World Oceans Day event near you.
-
Start your own event or clean up and register it with World Oceans Day. World Oceans Day also provides free resources so you have everything you need to plan and promote an event.
-
Live mindfully. Reduce plastic consumption and switch to materials like reusable water bottles, beeswax wrap instead of plastic wrap and reusable shopping bags that could otherwise end up in the ocean. Make safe, sustainable seafood decisions when purchasing food to support and maintain the health of ocean ecosystems.
