Looking for an easy and fun way to get involved in the fight against psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis? Register for a Walk to Cure Psoriasis in your area. The Walks to Cure Psoriasis, organized by the National Psoriasis Foundation, seek to raise awareness about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and make a difference in the lives of sufferers.
The first and largest Walk to Cure Psoriasis of 2011 is just around the corner: the South Florida walk, held in Aventura, Florida on March 6, 2010. I have had the pleasure of attending walks in Aventura and Denver the last few years, and was amazed by the turn out and the excitement of participants. The Walks provide a great opportunity to get involved in the community, enjoy a fun day with your family, and raise money for a great cause.
Started by the Henschel family several years ago, the Walk to Cure Psoriasis has become the most important and successful event for the National Psoriasis Foundation. Last year, I had the pleasure of serving on the committee that put on the South Florida Walk to Cure Psoriasis and observed as the entire Henschel family put their heart and soul into making the event a success. Because of the leadership and commitment by the Henschels and volunteers across America, The Walk to Cure Psoriasis has quickly grown from one walk in South Florida to 22 walks all over the country.
The social aspect of The Walk to Cure Psoriasis took me by surprise. There are so many people directly or indirectly affected by psoriasis in different ways. As a psoriasis sufferer, I know that the support of my wife and family is crucial in my daily battle against the disease. I encourage you to grab those close to you and get involved. You will be pleasantly surprised by how rewarding the experience is.
You can find a walk in your area by visiting here. If there is not a walk in your area, the National Psoriasis Foundation offers a virtual walk option, where you can register a team and raise money as if you are attending an actual walk. You will even receive a t-shirt if you raise over $100 and can qualify for various incentive prizes. So there is no excuse not to get involved and donate! You will be making a difference for the millions of psoriasis sufferers around the world.
